HISTORY

The former steam mill „Stari Mlin“ (Old Mill) located on Boulevard Vojvode Mišića No. 15 was one of the largest and most developed mills in Serbia during the period between the two world wars. It was established in 1901 on the road known at the time as Topčiderski drum, and was called Steam Automatic Mill of the Association of Stockholders for Food Processing in the Kingdom of Serbia.

The steam mill was equipped with the most modern devices at that time and was competing with foreign countries in milling wheat. However, it became a victim to bombing in 1914. During the occupation the Austrians used the mill’s machines to light up the Sava Bridge. After the war the destroyed buildings were reconstructed and in 1921 the mill was operational once again.

In 1945 the mill was nationalized and remained so until 1995 when it was taken over by a private company.

The building’s architecture is industrial in character and driven by its function. Today, the building is declared a cultural monument and is under state protection. Belgradians have been calling it the „Old Mill“ and the elder community refers to the whole neighborhood as “at the Old Mill”.

ARCHITECTURE

NEW MILL is located side by side with the Radisson Blu Old Mill Hotel, altogether forming the „Old Mill Complex“. The Old Mill has been reconstructed and in combination with the modern architecture of the new hotel and office facilities the entire scheme makes a single unit composed of historic and contemporary design.

Special emphasize is put on the layout of the “piazza” in front of the building complex. Beside a fountain, ample greenery will make it a friendly and inviting meeting place.

The architectural language and shapes of the newly designed towers are a continuation of the modern architectural style that the architect Dragiša Brašanović applied in his design of the neighbouring building, the State Printing House, thus creating a stylistic urban-architectural whole.

The architectural approach is supported by using modern and high quality facade elements arranged in a clear and tidy manner.

The interior of NEW MILL is modern and the space is flexible and designed for many options, just depending on individual space concepts and requirements. Materials are chosen carefully in order to complement the architectural and design propositions. The office space is categorized as A-class according to international standards.v
